Will I be unconscious?
No. IV sedation is conscious sedation — you stay safely responsive but deeply relaxed and usually remember very little of the treatment.
Is IV sedation safe?
Yes. It's delivered by a trained sedationist with continuous monitoring of your vital signs throughout the procedure.
Will I feel any pain?
Local anaesthetic is still used to numb the area. Combined with sedation, most patients feel nothing at all.
How long does it take to wear off?
You'll feel sleepy for several hours. We recommend resting at home for the rest of the day. You can't drive or work for 24 hours.
Do I need someone with me?
Yes — a responsible adult must escort you home and ideally stay with you for the rest of the day.
Can I eat before sedation?
We'll give you specific instructions, but generally no food or drink for several hours before your appointment.
